Playing Combat Cards Building a Deck

Playing Combat Cards

Combat Card duels take place when two opponents equip Combat Cards Decks within chat range of a Combat Cards arena. Touch the arena to get free demo decks, or empty decks to fill with cards bought from the vendor. Arenas are free, come in many styles, and contain all you need to get started fighting at home!

Combat Cards is played over a number of rounds and continues while both players have health remaining. In each round, you have 10 seconds to select a card to play. Playable cards have a green border which changes to white when you click the card to select it. At the end of the round, the cards selected by the players are compared to work out the results for that round.

The left hand side of a card is split into high, mid and low sections. Symbols in each section determine the card's contested effects in each area. Red blood drop attack effects reduce your opponent's health. Yellow arrow discard effects cause your opponent to discard. Contested effects are reduced by blue shield block effects in the same area of your opponents card.

In addition to contested effects, cards can have uncontested effects in the lower right corner of the card. These effects always occur when the card is played and cannot be stopped by an opponent, but are often negative.

If a card has a red border it cannot be selected until a condition card is played first. The cards outlined in red have a "consume resources" condition and display the red 'consume resources" icon on the upper right. If, on one turn you play a card with a green "produce resources" icon, on the next turn (and the next turn only), any card with the same icon will change to a green border and can be played.

In this way, cards build up into combos. Skillful Combat Card players will quickly learn the combos available to their opponent allowing them to anticipate their opponent's future moves, exploiting them to inflict heavy damage while avoiding damage themselves.

Players start with 3 cards in their hand. If a card is not selected in a round a new card is drawn and a card is randomly discarded if the players hand already contains 6 cards.

Building A Deck

Once you've learned how to play Combat Cards with a demo deck, you'll want to build a deck of your own. To do this get an empty (non-demo) deck from a Combat Cards arena and pay the vendor to buy some cards, either purchasing the entire set, individual cards, or a random lot, depending upon the vendor. Any new cards as yet in beta testing are available free from any arena, but are subject to change without notice.

***If you want to fight as a Tiny you will need the Combat Cards Deck - TINY which is available for free from marked vendors.

Once you have 8 or so cards, rez the empty deck in to the world by dragging it from your inventory on to the ground. Next select the card in your inventory you want to add to the deck and hold down "Ctrl" while dragging it to the deck. The deck should turn red as you drag the card over it and once the card has been added the deck will report the cards that it currently contains. Repeat the process until all the cards you want to use are in the deck. If you make a mistake, click on the deck to return the cards to your inventory.

Or, if you prefer, merely edit the deck object as you would any prim, adding cards from your inventory to its contents.

Once you have built your deck, wear the deck to play Combat Cards as normal. You will find that building decks with different combinations of Combat Cards will allow you to employ many different tactics in your games.

When you need to switch your cards to an updated version of the deck, rez the empty new deck and the old deck near each other. Click the old deck and it will ask you if it should move its contents into the new deck. Click "Yes," and the new deck will be filled with the cards that were in your old deck. Very easy!
